Karapoti's Fastest 20 Rides Updated...

2014 is making a strong case for being the fastest ever Karapoti. Among men, Kyle Ward moves to second fastest & now has three rides in the fastest 20, while Sam Shaw & Brendon Sharratt make it into the fastest-20 for the first time. Staying in the top 20 for perhaps the last time is a rider as good as Kashi Leuchs, whose 1998 record lasted eight years but is now just 20th fastest. Such has been the progression in the last 20 years, it is possible that by next year the fastest 20 rides will all be under 2hrs 20min, a barrier once thought unbreakable. Among women, Samara Sheppard did do the impossible in 2019, breaking 2hrs 30min, while Kate McIlroy is now second fastest ever. Such has been the progression of the women's standard in the last decade, that a rider as good as Commonwealth silver medallist Susy Pryde drops out of the fastest 20 women despite having twice won in 2hrs 54min.
