Karapoti Postponed Due to Covid-19...
The government announcement that New Zealand is going back into more advanced Covid-19 restrictions means the 2021 Karapoti Classic cannot be held on March 6th.
With Auckland at Level 3 and the rest of New Zealand at Level 2 until 6am on Sunday March 7th, gatherings of any kind are restricted to less than 100 people. The Karapoti Classic cannot operate within this requirement.
Given that there are no guarantees these restrictions will not be extended beyond 6am March 7th, it is not practical to hold the event on the advertised postponement date of March 7th.
The Karapoti Classic is the Southern Hemisphere’s longest running mountain bike race. In the three and a half decades thus far, it has never missed a year and we are looking already to a postponement date. Our company has two other events in March and April (hopefully) so we will be looking at May 1st for the Karapoti Classic in 2021. But there is a lot to work through (concessions, sponsors, volunteers, service providers, etc, etc) before we can confirm a new date.
All current entrants in the 2021 Karapoti Classic will be rolled over automatically to the postponed event. You will not have to do anything except line up. Entry fees already taken – as per the conditions of entry – are non-refundable.
Thanks for your patience in these unique times, and for the influx of emails and messages we’ve received in support of the event. This is our fifth cancelled or postponed event in the last 12 months.
